This video introduces basic concepts of painting the landscape. The beautiful composition includes the most elementary landscape forms: sky, trees, hills, and ground. The process of painting is explained and demonstrated in detail, showing the resource material the painting is based on and the techniques of direct drawing, underpainting and overpainting.
Critical value relationships between landscape elements are presented as the "norm" from which all exceptions deviate. The concepts are presented to augment your understanding of all landscape situations, not just the demonstration on this video.
This video is particularly recommended for beginning painters who have never worked with any of Johnnie Liliedahl's lesson projects. Brushwork and terminology presented relate to all of the other subjects she paints.

Great video! Johnnie takes it slow, and gets very detailed. The enclosed worksheet helps as it contains all of the materials you will need to paint along with her. Renting is a great way to see whether this video is worth purchasing, as renting it for one week isn't enough time to really get all of the benefits from it.Lots of "tricks" to create a great painting are given by this artist, and I think it is great for beginners on up!
All of Liddel's videos are great. They use a realistic style of painting used by early masters. However no matter what style you paint, her vidoes are full of great information, techniques and advice about painting and move along as a video quite nicely.
This DVD was an great demonstration on landscaping. She uses only six color and a few brushes. The technique for this painting is very easy to approach. I really enjoyed watching and painting this landscape . She is very informative. I recomend it.
Watching an artist actually lay down the paint is most fascinating to me. This DVD is no exception. The artists explanations and techniques are invaluable.
I've never really painted in oils and was looking for some good, basic instructions. She did a really good job of explaining and showing what she was doing - I'd definitely check out more by this painter.
Really good basic techniques and observation, I like her teaching methods, I will order more.
Johnnie's technique is very interesting and the video clearly showed how she goes about her work.
A must study to get the artist started. 8)
