Rudy's back with two hours worth of excellent advanced techniques for achieving a very high degree of accuracy while boring, turning, facing, threading, milling or grinding on your lathe.

Product availability: very long wait
Mysteries of the 4-jaw chuck revealed. Rudy goes through advanced setup and alignment techniques as well as how to handle "difficult" situations.
I like this video, especially the easy way Rudy explained how to set up your lathe for precision work. Watching him do some of the operations help me make sense of what I read in magazine or on the web. My only complaint is that the video technique isn’t quite what I’m used to watching, all the do it yourself shows on TV. I’m sure Rudy’s video budget was very meager. I would recommend this to a new lathe owners to help fill in the gaps of your machining education.
Good information and very well pressented. Enjoyable and informative.
Just like the Advanced Mill video from Rudy, this one spends the first 45 minutes discussing how to zero the machine. However, unlike the Milling video the lathe zeroing section demonstrates several clever setup tricks that I have not seen elsewhere. He then moves on to discuss milling in the lathe and other things. This is definitely a worthwhile rental.

I liked the video a lot. I've had a Atlas 10" lathe for about 35 years, but I am no machinist. I learned a lot from the video and I'm anxious to put this knowledge to work.
Rudy makes you wonder "why didn't I think of that" when he shows you how to do something.
I had always wondered how the tail stock and the head stock could be aligned. This video anwered this question entirely. A most see for fledgling machinists.
Very helpful and information well presented with good demostrations.
Rudy is a great teacher! Great info on aligning tail stock. Would highly recommend this video to the tyromachinist.
Very disappointed! Was not what I had in mind. I wold like to have a list of the contents of these videos.
So I believe you need to know the slang and, what your machine as to offer you or what ever you do in this world.
Rudy starts from ZERO and works his way up to 10 The man is great at what he does and teaches. Very Informative!
Why spend time making something that you know is done right or because you believe everything is straight out of the box. Your work is not!!!
This video should be the first you need to rent before doing any metalworking.
Great info!

Simply superb. Just the ticket for advancement from rank beginner.
I liked the information provided by the video and am making some of the test/setup items in the video. Hope there are more of the same type.
I have been a professional science educator for more than 25 years and have very high standards for laboratory instruction. This video was clear and direct! I learned a great deal despite my 5+ years as an amateur and self-taught lathe operator.
Excellent. Great detail and I particularly like the use of the test bar to align the lathe and set tapers. Rudy also shows some interesting setups and useful home built tools and how to make sure they are just right. Some of the close ups could be clearer, but the excellent narrative overcomes that minor foible.
The gentleman in the video has a wealth of information and knows his trade. The video is very slow paced and more efficient time should have been spent on actual setup on the lathe and the running of the operatiion. Since this video is for more advanced operators, there should have been less small talk and more operational demonstration.
Great DVD, informative and well worth the rental for the novice machinist. I learned a lot and was entertained as well
The title starts off with a 5 minute discussion of pole lathes and the first screw driven cross slide and then for advance screw threading is done with a tap and die for small threads. This was not what I expected in a title labled 'Advanced Aspects'. I'm glad that I rented this title because I really would have been disappointed paying $42 for this title. I personally don't think that viewing the disk is worth the rental fee.
Great video, should be a solid addition for anyone who is teaching themselves lathe work. No home user should be concerned about this tape covering "advanced" topics. It might have been called: "More Machine Lathe Operation". Certainly info on how to align the tail stock; or on how to hand turn with fine accuracy; or how to mill on the lathe, are all topics for the average home shop user. Take milling on the lathe. A "real" machinist would probably have several mills to choose from, it's the little guy who needs these techniques.
The presentation is just like being in Rudy's shop, steady but engaging.
The tape was good for me I have not used a lathe in years. Very Basic but interesting.
I would highly recommend this tutorial to anyone interested in learning a little more on how to set up and maintain their lathe. Rudy is an excellent instructor.
Very good; I definitely recommend this video!
Great in-depth knowledge on metal lathe how to. A+
Probably twice as long as it needs to be. Aside from the first section where he talks about how to align the tailstock and compound, it seemed to me like it would be better titled "miscellaneous aspects of...."
I have often wanted to spend a couple of hours with an advanced machinist like Rudy. I wanted to ask about those small but important details that the books never seem to cover.
The best thing in the video was a method to zero your tailstock offset. (I have heard horror stories from friends about how hard this was to do, so I have never touched the offset on my lathes tailstock.)
Rudy shows a really easy way to make a test device and the method to precisely true up the tailstock offset. It's one of those moments where you think "He's right... why didn't I think of that!" This alone was worth the rental, but there is a lot more for someone who wants to fill in those missing fine details in their machining knowledge.
All in all, a very informative video. You will get some good advice on the alignment of the lathe, and you will get to see how the lathe can be helpful using normal taps and dies to thread metal. I did not need the section on 'milling' as I have a knee mill, but for those of you who do not, the video will explain how you can mill metal quite easily by purchasing a milling accessory for not a lot of money. This is my second video from Rudy K and both were outstanding. I have ordered the third one on grinding lathe tools.
I learned a lot from this recording, good on milling with a lathe and trueing the lathe adjustments.
The content of this video is good but the camera view angle is not good. I could not actually see how the stock is turning etc.
Rudy is a brilliant craftsman and pedagogue. Unfortunately, it requires great concentration and intestinal fortitude to watch his video, as his delivery is very very dry and un-animated.
Ultimately, I learned a great deal from the video.
It's typical Rudy. A ton of information.
I would recommend it for anyone who wants to learn the easiest way to make sure their lathe is in alignment.
Great DVD! I learned a great deal more than I did taking a night school class
Excellent on tail stock alignment and very easy to understand and very well done!
I really like Rudy's videos. Yea they are kind of slow, but he has the old-school attitude. I expected advance turning techniques, but it was more on how to tune your lathe for precision and some non-typical lathe operation (i.e. milling).
Well done lots of good info. well explained, good filming
would highly recommend it.
GREAT INFO!! As usual Rudy covers the topic clearly & slowly so a novice like me can understand. Use of better close-ups would have been more to my liking, however.
I thought the video was just what I expected. Very informative and covered exactly what I wanted to know. I expect that I will be renting even more
I enjoyed the DVD very much, and would recommend it to anyone starting in lathe work.
Rather slow moving: could have been done in half the time. Also, production is rather crude. But lots of good information, clearly given.
Excellent video with lots of good information.
