This video was produced in 2002 provides a 'working knowledge' of the technical aspects, plus the welder skills necessary for using the Gas Metal Arc Welding process, commonly referred to as mig welding (solid wire with an externally furnished shielding gas). This process has been used in industry for a long time, but with the development of smaller, less expensive welding machines, it is becoming widespread in home shops because of its ease of operation. Steve also covers safety concerns inherent with all welding procedures.

Concise coverage in this 45 minute DVD. But I don't believe Steve missed any of the basics.
Good production value.
This video was informative and helpful. A bit slow and obviously not a proffesional video production, it still gives the information needed to learn the basics.
This is an easy to follow explanation of the wire feed welding process.
Excellent information on this dvd, great source for beginners.
Just getting into welding for a classic car rebuild and thought this was a great introduction. I would have like to see some more footage of actual techniques to show the difference between the angle the torch is held, the wire speed and what the finished product would look like. All in all, it's a great first video to start out with!
A nice, concise introduction to MIG welding. Good examples, good photography, enough to get you started welding without being overwhelming. Recommended as your first MIG welding video (it's also similar to the video that comes with many 115V MIG welders).
Descent production quality and a great beginner's guide. All the basics were covered in easy to understand terminology. Recommended for anyone looking to get into MIG welding.
I found this video very informative and useful!
This video was very helpful in the identification of basic wire feed welding parts and practices.
I was really happy with this DVD. I am a total beginner with welding, trying to get some knowledge before I start and that just what this DVD is all about. I felt it's a really good explanation on what MIG is and how to do it well. I really liked that they didn't stop to the most common MIG practices, but they also went on with more obscure stuff.
Excellent! Very professionally done. Excellent close-ups, content, editing, scripting.
Although I read the instruction book that came with my welder, it is not like seeing it on a video like this. I'd recommend it for any beginner like myself.
I felt it was a good indepth DVD for the first timer that showed a really good amount of the actual welding. It is exactly what I was looking for - I also thought that it was very professionally produced, contrary to one of the reviews
I have to say this is my first DVD by Steve. The production is first rate, none of the Standard BS from the guy that says "I'm gonna make a video". The art work used is first class as is the all the welding footage - along with the arrows and other displays on the screen. I learned more about GMAW in the course of this DVD than in all the books and tapes that came with my machine. Steve covers it like a well worn glove. He assumes you know little or nothing about it. And takes you from the start to the completed overhead weld. By explaining all the steps and reasons from A through E and all the sidesteps in between. A lot of things now make more sense than rereading the welding books that I own. He doesn't make one feel any less smart because of the basic steps he is going over. I will be looking at any of the other DVDs he has out when I need an education or refresher.
Very good use of time. Great overview of material.
I'm new to welding and found this to be pretty helpful, but agree with several others that some actual examples in addition to the explanations and animations would make this better. Also a section on metal prep, marking and tricks would be nice, overall satisfied.
Steve is a good welder and a pretty good instructor. I would recommend any of his videos. I think this one is above average. I just bought a new MIG Welder and this is going to help me be successful.
I have been doing MIC welding on a hobby basis for some time, however, it was just miss or hit. I had purchased another tape but that tape was not as good as this DVD. I learned things I didn't know before and the program was quite complete. It would have been better if the DVD would have used the type of MIG welder most hobby people would own with only switches and not continuous dials. Overall- a good program and a person can learn a lot from this DVD.
Good start for mig instruction- very good
The video was great. What's disappointing is the availability, I ordered the gas welding video over 2 weeks ago and it hasn't been sent.
[ SmartFlix note: we are constantly purchasing videos to keep up with demand. We do note the expected wait time for every DVD in the item description. ]
A-1 Excellent DVD. Steve Bleile's presentation was exceptional. His presentation was very professional and informative. I would recommend this DVD to anyone starting out with the gas wire feed welder. I also think it would be helpful to the more experienced welder to brush up on their skills and knowledge of the gas wire feed welder. Steve Bleile is an excellent teacher.
very good video. Very good discussion of the metallurgy involved, the choice of shielding gases, voltage, and wire feed speed, without getting overly technical. Now I know why I sometimes don't get the results I was expecting, and what I can change. Had to view it twice to really remember what he was explaining, because there was so much good info. Explanation of "pulling" and "pushing" was excellent. Highly recommended for the beginner to intermediate welder.
Down to earth how-to. Covers the basic operation and shows what you should be looking for on all the different types of welds. I especially liked the discussions with the videos showing the metal puddles - what's right and what's not right. Good learning experience. - - -Jim
This was helpful--not quite as helpful as I had hoped--It could have been a bit more instructive on more that just flat beads. It was worthwhile.
This video touches on a lot of subjects concerning GMAW welding, and just when you think it's going to go into more detail, it skips to the next subject.
So not a "complete" guide to GMAW welding (not that any video is), but pretty decent for an intro.
Don't be in a hurry to get the video, though. I ordered it on March 5th, and it didn't ship until April 22nd. I was going to use it as a guide when I first got my welder. Of course, since the video took a month and a half to get to me, I'd already figured out most of the stuff the video covered.
Great intro video. Highly recommended, even for someone who is just getting started like myself.
Learning to weld mig, maybe this video will help.
I thought it was very good. Good photograpy and clear explanations. Would recommend it for anyone wanting to learn Tig welding.
The video was professionally done - enjoyable to watch.
Really good video. Good quality and easy to understand. Provided useful and important information. The DVD was delivered in just under a weeks time.
Well done. The camera does things that are hard to do in any other learning environment. It gets very close to the weld, so you can see the motion and puddle perfectly. Great video
An excellent primer on GMAW welding techniques with emphsis on saftey and setup.
Very good for the newbie. It helped me get set up right and a lot more. Thanks!
Good basic information.. and something to see once in a while to review the basics...
Excellent. I have used two different wire feed welders for over 20 years and I learned several things from this and enjoyed watching it.
Yes I liked it and it was very informative , I plan on ordering BUG ME VIDEO FROM YOU SOON. Mike
